Learn more about Robert Middlebrooks:

How did you start your career in healthcare?

In 2012, I began consulting at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, GA in the Project Management Office to initially assist with technology projects. Very quickly I realized that I was finally in an industry in which my efforts would help serve and improve the lives of others and felt very blessed to be part of such a special environment. Technology projects expanded very quickly to covering regulatory compliance, quality management and clinical implementations. The incredible staff throughout the healthcare system at Floyd were so very generous and kind in sharing their knowledge and spirit. I was able to learn hospital operations at a foundational level. The Floyd team members were very smart and talented and created a culture that pursued excellence, quality, patient safety and continuous improvement. I had the privilege of managing various projects throughout the healthcare system for five years for their hospitals and primary care/urgent care facilities.

What brought you to HWL?

I began consulting with HWL in 2020 during the initial days of the COVID pandemic providing project management, healthcare quality, and regulatory compliance expertise. In partnership with HWL and state/federal government agencies, I was the senior project manager who helped establish and successfully operate static, mobile, and mass drive-through COVID vaccination clinics throughout Georgia and Colorado. Lauren Cabral was the HWL Executive sponsor for the clinics and worked in the trenches with me to ensure successful outcomes. After the pandemic, I continued to consult with HWL on various projects involving Product Development, Sales/RFPs, and Insourcing/Internal Resource Pool. I knew instantly in working with HWL team members that the organization had so much talent and innovation and truly cared about improving the lives of others. As the organization continued to grow, the timing was right to join the organization to help create and mature the Project Management Office.

What are your priorities and goals for the future of HWL?

Immediate goals would include creating and maturing an enterprise/business project management office (known as an EPMO or BPMO) that helps the organization to improve processes, incorporate industry best practices and help teams to interface more effectively. An effective PMO does not have to be overly complicated to yield high results. Strong collaboration, listening, proactive communication with all stakeholders, and focused execution will be the keys to our success.

My vision of future goals for HWL revolves around delivering excellence and quality through innovative enhancements to our technology and further streamlining of processes to help our customers improve staffing and deliver better patient care. I also believe our strength is increased through the relationships that we develop with other Jackson Healthcare affiliate companies and third-party partners. I currently serve in an advisory and project management capacity with Jackson Healthcare Government Services (JHGS) and hope to continue that collaboration in the future.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to work out and try to change up my fitness routine with varied weightlifting and cardio. I also like taking long walks with my energetic miniature dachshund Maximus (Max). I enjoy socializing with friends and family, traveling, and am a Furman University alumnus, so must always cheer for the Furman Paladins! I have several artists in my family, so I also draw, paint, and like to be creative.

HWL extends a warm welcome Robert! His expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to grow and expand our services. We look forward to working with him to achieve our goals and make a positive impact on the healthcare industry.
