How did you start your career in healthcare?
I come from a family of nurses that spans four generations, so you could say that nursing is in my blood. But what really drove me to pursue this career was my own experience as a patient. I was born with multiple congenital heart defects and underwent several procedures before the age of five to correct them. This sparked a deep curiosity in me about the inner workings of the heart, lungs, and circulatory system.
I started my career in perioperative and critical care, with a focus on cardiac surgery. Over the years, I've gained clinical experience in a variety of areas, including emergency services, trauma, solid organ transplant, and mechanical circulatory support programs. I also have extensive leadership experience in these areas, as well as in Women's Services and outpatient clinics.
What brought you to HWL?
I am a fierce advocate of the business case for Nursing as a profession and am passionate about helping healthcare systems build programs that provide flexibility in working arrangements and earning options while maintaining the fiscal health and financial stability of the organization. HWL’s mission and purpose align deeply with this concept.
How do you plan to bring your previous experience to your role with HWL?
Over the past ten years, I have focused on assisting organizations in creating internal contingent workforce structures that enhance financial stability and sustainability in the staffing industry. This also leads to improved patient care and increased employee satisfaction and engagement. The development and delivery of insourcing or internal resource pool designs that match the client's size, scope, and culture are essentially the same things.
What are your priorities and goals for the future of HWL?
One of the goals that I have when coming on board HWL is to showcase what sets HWL apart from other MSPs and offer elevated support to our clients by providing a baseline contingent workforce as a service, which we call "InSourcing". This will allow us to help clients use proactive staffing models that are based on predictable vacancy cycles, giving them more confidence in our abilities.
What do you like to do in your free time?
During my leisure time, I find pleasure in listening to podcasts and books and attending live music events. I also love exploring new places, cuddling with my cats, and binge-watching dark comedy shows. Additionally, I collect bourbon and volunteer to fundraise for SUDS, a charity that supports disabled soldiers.
